Teri's Trivia Night on June 9![]() Well-known Comedian Steve Bjork will ask three series of 25 questions on topics of general trivia, sports, entertainment, people, music and Wilmington. At the end of the evening, the team with the highest number of correct answers will be crowned the 2018 Trivia Champion. The Champions will win the ownership for one year of the priceless engraved trophy and, of course, bragging rights throughout the town. While you might think of yourself as genius at Trivia Pursuit, this year we will have all of our previous winning teams competing. Come and see if you are able to better our past winners, the Knights of Columbus, Mandates, Burns Bunch and the Men in Blue. Incidentally, this year, the Men in Blue are competing for an unprecedented 5th consecutive Championship. So on June 9th, leave your smart phones in the car, but bring your smartest teammates, munchies and snacks. A cash bar and complimentary popcorn will be available. Wilmington Rotary's Fifth Annual Ice Bucket ChallengeFor the fifth straight year, the Wilmington Rotary Club will be hosting an Ice Bucket Challenge at Rotary Park, with all proceeds going to the Angel Fund. The last four years, the Club has raised $20,000 total to donate to the Angel Fund to support research the cure ALS, We are hoping to make this year’s event even bigger than last year’s and would love your help to bring people together and to raise funds for research to find a cure for the terrible disease of A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). It will be taking place on Saturday, August 17 at 9:00 a.m. at Rotary Park. Please:

Wilmington Rotary's Fourth Annual Ice Bucket Challenge![]() For the fourth straight year, the Wilmington Rotary Club will be hosting an Ice Bucket Challenge at Rotary Park, with all proceeds going to the Angel Fund. The last three years, the Club has raised over $11,000 total to donate to the Angel Fund to support research the cure ALS, This year, we are also having an online Facebook auction. With all proceeds going to the Angel Fund, please bid on two Red Sox tickets to their Monday, August 20 game against the Cleveland Indians. First pitch is at 7:10. The seats are third base grandstand (Section 24, Row 9, seats 9 and 10). Also included is a $50.00 gift certificate to the Red Sox Souvenir Shop, and a $50.00 gift certificate to Eastern Standard, a restaurant just five minutes from Fenway Park. Freezin’ for a Reason: 2018 Polar Plunge to End Polio![]() Rotary District 7930 will hold its 8th annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 3th, at Long Beach in Gloucester at 11:00am. The event is part of Rotary International’s ongoing campaign to eradicate polio in our lifetime. More than 300 people are expected to plunge into the cold waters off Cape Ann this year including five members of the Rotary Interact Club of Wilmington High School. Since 1985, Polio has become the signature cause for Rotary International as it has teamed up with partners including The Global Poverty Project, The Global Eradication Initiative, The World Health Organization, and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since that time, more than a billion dollars have been raised among Rotary clubs worldwide and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. When Rotary International took on the battle against this disease, more than 350,000 people spanning 125 countries were impacted. Today there are three countries left where it has not been eradicated- Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. This year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has again pledged a 2:1 match for every dollar Rotarians raise toward eradication efforts (up to $35 million/year until 2018). For as little as $0.60, a donation can make the difference in changing a person’s life. Please support your local Rotarians as they brave the icy waters off Gloucester to help eradicate polio in our lifetime. The Wilmington Club will have club Assistant District Governor Jim Major, Five Interact students making the plunge to aid in the raising funds. The district is utilizing an electronic fundraising process. Supporters are encouraged to log on and make a pledge to help Rotarians lead the way to eradicate this dreaded disease. District Honors John Doherty for Contributions to Rotary![]() The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who elect to contribute $1,000 or more each year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved global grants. The purpose of the Paul Harris Society is to honor and thank individuals for their generous, ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation. Rotary districts often honor new members of the Paul Harris Society by presenting them with a certificate and chevron at a district or club event. John has been a member of the Wilmington Rotary Club since 1984, a two-time past president (1995 and 2005), and longtime treasurer. He has also served various positions at the district level since 1995, and he and his fiance' Teri LaBella have run the annual auction and trivia night for years. Congratulations John! |
Wilmington Rotary Presents Family Movie Night on the Common![]() The night will feature animated "shorts" from a major animation production company, perfect for families with small children. Wilmington Rotary to Serve Dinner to Kick Off the Fun on the Fourth Festivities![]() For the unbeatable price of $8, you can have your pick of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, lemonade, water, and a dessert. Men in Blue Take Home Another Wilmington Rotary Trivia Night Champioship![]() It turned into a battle for second place, as the teams which finished from second through eighth place were all within four correct questions of each other. The proceeds from the night went to fund the Rotary scholarships. To date, the Wilmington Rotary Club has awarded over $650,000 in scholarships to graduating Wilmington seniors, and the trivia night is a big part of our fundraising efforts.

Wilmington Rotary Partners Up with Mass. Memories Road Show![]() The Mass. Memories Road Show is an event where individuals who live or work in Wilmington can bring up to three pictures from in and around town to be digitized and archived for historical purposes. Pictures do not need to be of any particularly significant historical event. People today find interest in looking at pictures from generations past doing ordinary things, and the same will be said generations from now. Whether the picture is of a parade, a wedding, a backyard barbecue, a Little League game, or a family pet, individuals will be able to tell their story through their images. Last year, over 250 people braved the icy waters, raising more than $98,000 and welcoming Rotarians, friends, and family members from over 45 Rotary Clubs.

Night at the Wakefield Bowladrome Set for January 21![]() The Wilmington Rotary will be renting lanes and having a social event this Saturday, January 21, at the Wakefield Bowladrome, 92 Water Street, starting at 6:00.

Still Time to Adopt a Family for the Christmas Project![]() Each year, the Christmas Project in Wilmington provides clothing to children in town in need. With many families in need, we need your help.
You can adopt a child, and get the age, size, and preferences of a child and you can buy the clothes that you would like to donate yourself, or you can donate money to the Wilmington Rotary Club so that our volunteers can pick out the clothes.

Rotary Auction Set for Friday, November 18![]() The Wilmington Rotary Club is excited about our upcoming annual auction on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 112 Middlesex Avenue. Local businesses are donating items to be auctioned off, and there is a free buffet and cash bar available. This is our big fundraiser, and proceeds go towards scholarships for graduating Wilmington seniors.
At the conclusion of the night, we will draw the winning raffle tickets, for the following prizes:

Club Gives Away 300 Frisbees at National Night Out![]() On August 2, 2016, the Wilmington Rotary Club participated in the National Night Out, an event to raise awareness for domestic violence and encourage partnerships between first responders and community members.
The community was treated to free food, bounce houses, and got to not only see a Blackhawk helicopter, but climb in as well.
The Club set up a tent and handed out 300 frisbees to area children.

Fred Cain Celebrates 62 Years of Perfect Attendance in Wilmington Rotary
On August 3, 1954, fresh out of the service, Fred Cain came to his first Wilmington Rotary meeting with his father, who had founded the club. 62 years of perfect attendance later, the club recognized his years of service and generosity to the club by getting him a Rotary jacket noting his years in the club, to replace a jacket that the club got for him years earlier. The club is in a better place because of Fred, as are the people that the club serves. Congratulations, Fred, and we look forward to replacing that jacket again in a few years. |
Wilmington Rotary Welcomes District Governor Sheryl Meehan
On August 3, 2016, the Wilmington Rotary Club was honored to have District Governor Sheryl Meehan and District Governor Elect Dave Gardner visit for a meeting. Governor Meehan, herself a former member of the Wilmington Club, spoke of Rotary International President John Germ's theme for the 2016-2017 year, "Be a Gift to the World." She also provided updates on Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio worldwide (we are thisclose), the district's Homelessness and Hunger Initiative, and the district's Rotoplast missions to operate on individuals with cleft lip and palate anomalies. |
Rotary Works with the Lowell Spinners for "Wilmington Night"The Wilmington Rotary Club worked with the Lowell Spinners, the Red Sox class A affiliate, to create Wilmington Night at the Spinners. While the local nine were not able to pull out a win, the Club enjoyed a great night at LeLacheur Park. The Fourth of July Committee was honored by throwing out the first pitch.

Rotary's Visible Presence at Fun on the Fourth![]() Wilmington welcomed back the annual Fourth of July Carnival to the Town Common, and the Wilmington Rotary Club had a great time serving hamburgers and hot dogs to folks. Thank you to the Fourth of July Committee and the town for their hard work, and thank you to the Rotary Club members for helping out.

Another Successful Trivia Night for the Men in Blue![]() On Friday June 10th, The Wilmington Rotary Club hosted another successful Trivia Night to benefit the Wilmington Rotary Scholarship Trust Fund. Forty six teams competed for the honor of being crowned Wilmington's most Knowledgeable about Unimportant Information! Once again, the Men in Blue took home the trophy for the third consecutive year. Six thousand dollars was raised for scholarships.
